Technical SEO checklist: what to validate before and after launch.

Technical SEO is not a ranking shortcut. It is the foundation that helps search engines discover the right pages, avoid the wrong ones, understand site relationships, and preserve useful signals during launches, redesigns and migrations.

Responsive Social Linker website implementation used during production SEO validation

Crawlability

Important public pages should be reachable through normal anchor links and not blocked accidentally by robots rules, authentication or client-only rendering.

Indexation

Decide which routes should be indexed, remove accidental noindex directives, and keep utility, duplicate or private routes out of the index.

Canonical URLs

Every indexable page should resolve to one preferred URL without conflicting canonical tags, protocol variants or unnecessary duplicate paths.

Titles and descriptions

Use descriptive page-level titles and useful summaries that match the page intent instead of repeating one generic template everywhere.

Internal links

Connect service pages, guides, products and related content so important pages are not isolated and topical relationships are clear.

Structured data

Use schema only when it accurately describes visible content and real entities such as Organization, Service, Article, Breadcrumb or FAQ.

Sitemap coverage

Include canonical pages you want crawled and exclude test routes, filters, thin utility pages and URLs that should not rank.

Redirects

Map old or changed URLs to the closest relevant replacement. Avoid redirect chains and sending everything to the homepage.

Performance

Reduce unnecessary script work, large media, layout shifts and blocking resources while keeping the page stable and useful on real devices.

Production validation

Check the real domain after deployment: status codes, metadata, forms, redirects, sitemap, robots, canonicals, analytics and important journeys.

Launch sequence

01

Before build

Define indexable page types, URL structure, navigation and content relationships.

02

During build

Implement metadata, canonicals, crawlable links, schema and performance-conscious rendering.

03

Before launch

Validate robots, sitemap, redirects, status codes, mobile behaviour, forms and analytics.

04

After launch

Monitor Search Console, indexed pages, query changes, crawl issues and redirect behaviour.

How we validate findings

A finding is useful only when it can be tied to production evidence.

Rendered output

Check the live response, metadata, canonical, robots directives, structured data, internal links, status codes and redirects on the production URL.

Search Console

Use URL Inspection and query/page performance to separate crawl/indexation problems from normal ranking competition.

Repository diff

Tie code-level fixes to the exact route or component that changed so the reason for the change stays reviewable.

Post-release verification

Recheck production, sitemap, important journeys and runtime errors instead of assuming a successful build means a successful SEO release.

Google primary references

The checklist is cross-checked against first-party Google Search Central documentation instead of treating third-party audit scores as ranking rules.

FAQ

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the implementation work that helps search engines discover, render, understand and index the right pages while avoiding duplicate, broken or inaccessible routes.

Does technical SEO guarantee rankings?

No. It removes technical barriers and improves clarity, but rankings also depend on relevance, content quality, authority, competition, links, brand demand and user behaviour.

When should technical SEO be done?

During site architecture and development, not only after launch. It is especially important during redesigns, migrations, new service launches and major routing changes.

How often should a technical SEO audit happen?

After major releases and periodically on active sites. The useful frequency depends on how often pages, templates, routes, integrations and content change.

Need technical SEO implemented in the build?

Social Linker includes technical search foundations in website work and also provides focused technical SEO implementation for existing sites, redesigns and migrations.
